Setting up a Pay Class with Breaks

The Break tab allows you to define either a punched break, auto-deducted break, or both for the selected Pay Class. Breaks can be assigned to a Pay Class or a Shift. If a break is assigned to both the Pay Class and a Shift, the break assigned to the Shift will be used in the calculations.

  1. Select Setup from the navigation list.
  2. Select Pay Class from the slide out menu.
  3. Choose the Pay Class you wish to work with from the list. If you need to set up a new Pay Class select + New.
  4. Configure the desired settings for the Pay Class.
  5. Go to the Break tab.

Punched Break Set Up

  1. From Punched Break, select Punch For BreakClosedSelect this option if you wish to define the amount of time that must be worked before the punched break can be started. For example, the employee can punch out to start their break anywhere after 4 hours and up to 6 hours after the shift starts..
  2. At Break May Start Between, enter how much time must elapse from the first punch of the day at Earliest and Latest. These settings define a window when the break can be started.
  3. Enter how much time is allowed for the break at the Break Length field. For example, if the break is 30 minutes enter 00:30.
  4. Enter the maximum time allowed for the break and the Extended Break Length field. If this time is exceeded, the punches will not be considered as break punches but as normal In/Out punches.
  5. At Paid Break Type, select whether the break is paid or unpaid.
  6. Once complete select Save.

Auto Deduction Set Up

  1. From Automatically Deduct Break, select Automatically Deduct Break.
  2. At Minimum Hours Worked To Qualify, enter how much time an employee must accumulate in the day to qualify for a deduction.
  3. Enter how much time will be deducted at Amount to Deduct from End of Day.
  4. Once complete select Save.

If both a Punched Break and an Auto Deduction are set up, an Auto Deduction will only be used if the employee does not punch out for break or if their punches do not follow the Punched Break rules that are set up.
